As the new year rings in, departments worldwide gather data, number-crunch, and figure up the year's crime stats. Captain, Mark Frost, of the Dardanelle Police Department, stated that crime rates have dropped 40 percent since new management took over, the beginning of 2019.

Many residences, of the mild-size town, are unsure what happened to all the criminals. Roger Pontoon, from the river sand dunes, knows exactly where they went. "They ran for their lives as soon as that Quick Draw McGraw [Chief, Dr. Wilson Short] slapped his name on his office door." Pontoon stated. He went on to say that it was like the shot heard around the world. "People fell in line and they knew they were in trouble," Roger stated that he saw a group, approximately 100 or so, who were running as if they were in a marathon. "None of them could outwit Gilkey [Yell County Sheriff] or the law across the river, so they just moseyed on over here and took root in the city, thinkin' they could hide."

Pontoon figures the unlawful group ran for cover in the Ozark Mountains. One thing is certain, Dardanelle is taking a bite out of crime and sending criminals running.
