After the historic flood of 2019, county officials have decided unanimously to designate Yell County as a wet county, bringing alcohol sells to the Free State. Quorum Court members decided this was the best way to bring relief to the community by utilizing the sales tax for relief funds. Many citizens are excited about the change; Larry Dale from Chickilah is one supporter stating, "I'm just happy I won't have to drive all the way to New Blain for a Miller."
Although there is much support for the change, conservatives from across the narrow pond, in Pope County, are pushing back. One protester held a sign Tuesday that read, "The levy might not be dry, but the county should be!"
The county will call up a special election in the upcoming months for the residence to vote.
